Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television anchor, journalist and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. As a child in New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career as a journalist with KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. Mitchell was hired by the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. In Washington she was made general correspondent by NBC News a year later. She started covering the White House in 1981 and was appointed chief congressional correspondent by 1988. Mitchell was appointed Chief White House reporter in 1992 and was also the Chief International Affairs correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell has appeared as a guest on TV news program Meet the Press as a panelist as well as host. She was on the panel for 1988's presidential debates, in which George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell received the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and in 2004 in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) awarded Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her contributions to the protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell started covering in the White House in 1981-1988 for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's second term as president. She reported on a variety of important stories like arm control, budget tax reform as well as the Iran-contra scandal. Mitchell went on numerous trips together with the president Reagan to meetings together with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world presidents.
